Monty Roberts grew up in an abusive home. Early on, he found it hard to trust people – so he was attracted to the peace and quiet of a farm life, surrounded by horses. He now uses that spirit of peace and quiet to rehabilitate war veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress. “When we make an army to put them on the battlefield, we wash trust out of them. They can’t trust anything,” Monty told ABC adding that he believes that horses psyches work in a similar way. “They do not trust human beings, at all, under any circumstances – unless you earn it.” That’s why Monty Roberts let his horses and traumatized war veterans get to know each other through his innovative rehabilitation approach. And it works just brilliantly. Just watch war veteran Alicia Watkins in the clip below.
