34-year-old Irish actor Barry Keoghan, who is currently preparing to play Ringo Starr in Sam Mendes’ four-film Beatles project, underwent a non-invasive procedure known as XERF.

In footage of the treatment, Keoghan is seen lying on a treatment bed while celebrity skin specialist Nilam Holmes moves a handheld device across his cheeks and jawline.

“I’ve been hearing a lot about it and Nilam is very excited about it,” he said. “And she’s brilliant at what she does. I really mean that.”

The revelation comes after months of commentary about the Saltburn star’s appearance. Keoghan has previously spoken about how online abuse has affected his willingness to attend public events and even appear on screen.

Barry Keoghan’s Appearance Changed The Way The Public Saw Him

Keoghan built his acting career through films including The Killing of a Sacred Deer and Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk. He later received an Academy Award nomination for his performance in The Banshees of Inisherin.

However, his role as Oliver Quick in the 2023 film Saltburn brought him a different kind of attention.

The performance helped turn Keoghan into an unexpected heartthrob, with more attention being directed toward his appearance.

He acknowledged the shift in a 2024 interview with GQ.

“It’s nice not just being looked at as the weird-looking guy,” he said. “My prettiness didn’t get me this far.”

But the increased attention also brought greater scrutiny, with viewers repeatedly commenting on his facial features and speculating about whether he had undergone cosmetic procedures.

Keoghan is now preparing for another major role, playing Ringo Starr in The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event.

Paul Mescal will portray Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn will play George Harrison, and Harris Dickinson will take on the role of John Lennon.

Each film is expected to tell the band’s story from the perspective of a different member, with all four movies scheduled for release in April 2028.

Keoghan Underwent Two Sessions Of A Skin-Tightening Treatment

The procedure Keoghan received is known as XERF, a treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to heat deeper layers of the skin.

The process is designed to encourage collagen production. Collagen is a protein that helps maintain the skin’s firmness, and increased production may gradually improve the appearance of loose skin.

The treatment is also marketed as a way to create a more defined-looking jawline without surgery.

Patients can generally return to their usual activities immediately, while results are intended to develop over the following months.

Keoghan has undergone two sessions with Holmes.

A single full-face appointment at her clinic costs £2,500, while two sessions spaced approximately four to eight weeks apart cost £4,500, equivalent to around $6,000.

Each appointment lasts roughly 90 minutes, and the clinic states that results can remain visible for 12 to 18 months.

However, the treatment itself does not confirm whether Keoghan has undergone any other cosmetic procedures.

His Cheeks And Lips Have Been The Subject Of Months Of Speculation

Discussion about Keoghan’s appearance intensified after he attended the New York premiere of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man in March.

Viewers commented that his face appeared fuller than in earlier photographs, with particular attention directed toward his cheeks and lips.

Cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Nora Jaafar later told the Daily Mail that the appearance of his mid-face in photographs looked “consistent with cheek filler.”

“When larger volumes are placed through the mid-face it can create a rounded or slightly ‘puffy’ appearance,” she explained.

Keoghan Says Online Abuse Has Made Him Want To Stay Home

While speculation about his appearance continues, Keoghan has spoken openly about the impact of online comments.

During a March 20 appearance on SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up, the actor acknowledged that he has a supportive fanbase but said that being a recognizable public figure also comes with a difficult side.

“There’s a lot of hate online,” he said. “There’s a lot of abuse of how I look.”

Keoghan explained that he had tried stepping away from social media, although curiosity sometimes led him back to see what people were saying after his public appearances.

The comments eventually began affecting his willingness to leave home and attend events.

“It’s made me really go inside myself, not want to attend places, not want to go outside,” he said. “And I say this being absolutely pure and honest to you. It’s becoming a problem.”

He also explained that the criticism had begun affecting his relationship with his work.

“When that starts leaking into your art, it becomes a problem because then you don’t even want to be on screen anymore,” he said.

His comments highlighted how persistent public discussion about his appearance had become an issue beyond social media.

The Actor Worries About What His Son Will Read In The Future

Keoghan has also expressed concern about how the online commentary could affect his young son, Brando, whom he shares with former partner Alyson Kierans.

The actor has said that one of the most upsetting aspects of the criticism is the possibility that his child could eventually come across the comments.

“It is disappointing for the fans, but it’s also disappointing that my little boy has to read all of this stuff when he gets older,” he said.

In 2024, Keoghan deactivated his Instagram account amid intense online attention surrounding his personal life.

His decision to step away from the platform came as he faced continued public discussion about his relationships and appearance.
