Three days after news of her split from Jelly Roll went public, Bunnie XO did what she does best: got on her podcast and told the truth.
In a nearly hour-long episode of Dumb Blonde titled simply “The Divorce,” the 46-year-old podcaster walked listeners through how a decade-long marriage came undone, and it started with a fight on Mother’s Day.
‘File the f*ing divorce papers’
By XO’s own account, she and Jelly Roll had a communication problem that had been building for over a year. They were, she said, “the type of couple who never argued,” which she says sounds sweet on paper but really just meant neither of them ever said what they needed to say.
“He would be holding things in. I would be holding things in, and that’s a recipe for disaster,” she explained on the June 18 episode.
When things finally came to a head on Mother’s Day, she reached her limit. “I was so fed up and so tired that I just looked at him and said, ‘Well, then file the f***ing divorce papers.'”
She wasn’t expecting him to actually do it. In their relationship, that kind of ultimatum was the one thing you weren’t supposed to say. But unlike her husband, who had apparently thrown it out before, XO is “not the type of person who says what I don’t mean.” Jelly Roll took her at her word and filed in May.
“Was I blindsided? Was this divorce mutual? No, it was not mutual,” she said. “Even though I told him to file the divorce papers, I was speaking out of anger and frustration.”
After the argument she packed a bag, left the house, and didn’t speak to him for weeks.
Setting the record straight
XO used the episode to shut down several rumors that had been circulating since the news broke Monday. The biggest one: nobody cheated.
“Nobody cheated on the other person,” she said plainly. “It’s literally just we served our purpose for each other.”
She also denied any affair with Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger, and pushed back on anyone who questioned whether the relationship was ever genuine.
“I don’t care what anybody says: It was real. Look what the f*** we built, ladies and gentlemen.”
Still having a baby together
Perhaps the most surprising detail from the episode is that the divorce isn’t ending their plans to start a family. The couple has been on an IVF journey for years, using a surrogate because XO cannot safely carry a child herself, and she confirmed that’s still going ahead.
“That’s my f***ing best friend, dude. Like, I love him,” she said of Jelly Roll, adding that they’re settling things “on the best possible terms” and plan to co-parent and stay close.
The couple met in 2015, married in August 2016, and Jelly Roll has two children from previous relationships whom XO has helped raise throughout their marriage.
