Cindy Crawford admits she ‘changed’ herself to make short-lived marriage to Richard Gere work

Even though it’s been more than 30 years since her short-lived marriage to Richard Gere, Cindy Crawford is traveling back in time to take a look back at her relationship to the Pretty Woman star.

The 57-year-old fashion icon appeared in the Apple TV+ docuseries The Super Models where she reflected on how impressionable she was as a 22-year-old in love.

“In the beginning of a relationship, when you’re a young woman, you’re like, ‘You like baseball? I like baseball. You’re really into Tibetan Buddhism? I might be into that. I’ll try that,” she said.

Gere, 74, is well known for his commitment to Buddhism.

“You’re willing to kind of mold yourself around whoever you are in love with.”

Crawford admitted that not only her beliefs shifted, but so did her career.

Once part of the “fashion elite,” she found herself exploring other opportunities.

“He was older, so I just was like in a different circle,” she said, “and not doing some of those same fashiony things anymore.”

The supermodel acknowledged she was “still figuring out” who she was and what she wanted to be at 22, which sometimes made it difficult to be in a relationship with Gere, a 37-year-old.

“I didn’t want to hear it from him because at 22, you think you know everything and you think you’re already formed and then you realize 10 years later, you’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, they were totally right.'”

After tying the knot in 1991, the couple ultimately split three years later.

She would go on to marry Rande Gerber in 1998, and Gere wed Carey Lowell from 2002 to 2016 before splitting and marrying Alejandra Silva in 2018. Silva is 34 years his junior.
