Drew Carey reveals when he plans to retire from hosting ‘The Price is Right’

With Pat Sajak retired from Wheel of Fortune, Drew Carey is now the longest-serving game show host with 17 years of experience under his belt.

In a recent interview with TV Insider, Carey dished on whether he’d like to chase his former colleagues’ records or if he planned to follow his own timeline as the host of The Price is Right.

The actor and comedian began hosting the game show in 2007 after longtime host Bob Barker retired.

When he first his hosting duties he hoped to make it to five years, then it was to the end of his contract, and suddenly his goal was to make it to 10 years.

“Once I hit 10 years here, I was like, ‘Wow, that’s the longest I’ve ever had a job in my life. It’s such just a great part of my day, my year, my life. I can’t imagine giving it up.’ I don’t like CBS to know that (laughs), but it’s going to be a few years ’til my next contract negotiation. So maybe forget I said this. I can quit anytime I want!” he told the outlet.

Now his plans are a little different.

“I just show up and punch the clock and hope I have a job every day,” he said. “I don’t think in terms of I’m the longest one. I do have a goal: I want to keep going until I die. This is my 18th season. I’ve got to get the 35 and 41 so I can catch Bob Barker and Pat Sajak.”

As Carey slowly but surely makes his way to his 35th and 41st anniversary, he wants to make sure the show continues to remain on air.

“Ever since the beginning, I wanted to be a good steward. I learned that from when I was a church kid. You got to be a good steward of the Earth and good steward of your family and a good steward of your money. And I want to be a good steward of the show, so I don’t screw it up and wreck it from the very beginning. I was like, ‘Don’t mess it up.’ I just wanted to make sure it was always on.”

I love Drew Carey on The Price is Right. I hope he continues hosting the game show for a very long time! Please share if he’s one of your favorite game show hosts.
