Billie Eilish fans have stumbled across an unexpected piece of television history, and it has left many of them wondering how they failed to notice it sooner.
The singer’s mother, Maggie Baird, made a brief appearance on the show Friends back in 1999, long before her daughter became a household name. Now, a clip from the beloved sitcom has resurfaced online, sending fans of both the show and Billie Eilish into a frenzy.
Baird appeared in an episode titled “The One Where Joey Loses His Audience,” playing a casting director during one of Joey Tribbiani’s auditions. The character, portrayed by Matt LeBlanc, is desperately trying to land a job to help cover the cost of medical treatment for a painful hernia.
Things don’t go quite as planned when Joey’s injury prevents him from lifting the product he is supposed to demonstrate. Instead, he attempts to improvise, suggesting: “Or I could just point to it? Blah, blah, blah Purina One. Point to a bag today.”
Billie Eilish’s mom
Baird’s appearance may have been brief, but the discovery has proved memorable for fans who are only now connecting the dots between the actress and the singer’s family.
Social media users have been sharing their disbelief on Instagram, with several admitting they had watched the episode without ever recognizing her.
“HOW DID I NEVER NOTICE WHAT,” one person wrote, according to Tyla.
Another commented: “HOW DID I NOT NOTICE THIS.”
And a third one wrote: “I literally just watched this episode and now feeling annoyed that I didn’t notice this.”
“I was shocked”
Others were equally stunned by the unexpected discovery.
“I didn’t know that! How funny!!!” one fan remarked, while another exclaimed: “OMG NOOOOO FREAKING WAY?!!!!!!!! WHAT? I AM GOBSMACKED!”
A different viewer admitted: “WHEN I SAW HER IN THE SERIES I WAS SHOCKED,” while someone else wrote: “HOLY SH*T I THOUGHT SHE LOOKED FAMILIAR!”
The reactions kept coming, with one fan revealing: “I never knew this and I’m on the last season.”
Another added: “Hooooly sh*t!!! That’s why the first time I saw the show, I thought I knew her! Wow!”
