At 80 years old, Harrison Ford knows exactly who he is, and the legendary actor isn’t about to let his fans tell him otherwise.
Ford recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter for an extremely candid interview where he addressed the rumors that he suffers from a stigmatized disorder…
Let’s just say he squashed those rumors.…
The Indiana Jones movies were the ultimate action adventure that satisfied the whole family and launched U.S. actor Harrison Ford into international stardom.
His movies have grossed over $9 billion worldwide at the box office – and I think we all can agree that Ford is one of the most successful actors ever. I honestly, through the years, don’t know of too many entertainers that have matched the coolness or charisma of this man.
“I’ve been very, very lucky. Extraordinarily lucky. Many, many people with, you know, more brains, more talent, cuter, have not had the luck that I’ve had,” Ford told GQ in 2017.
With a career that’s spanned six decades and iconic roles such as Han Solo, Ford has done his fair share of press.
But over the years, he has become somewhat famous for giving interviews in which he tries to share the minimum about who he might be.
“It’s always better,” he said in 2017 and added: “not to talk about it, I think. Just fucking do it. Don’t ’splain it. Especially if you’re getting away with it.”
Many have noticed that Harrison can be awkward and uncomfortable when speaking in public, yet he is such a charismatic actor on screen.
Over the years, he’s commented about being shy in certain situations, which many fans took to mean he had social anxiety.
But Ford said that was far from the case. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he got candid when talking about the fan diagnosis.
”That sounds like something a psychiatrist would say, not a casual observer. No. I don’t have a social anxiety disorder. I have an abhorrence of boring situations.”
He clarified that he wasn’t exactly shy when he first stepped onstage, he was “f***ing terrified.”
“My knees would shake so badly, you could see it from the back of the theater. But that’s not social anxiety. That’s being unfamiliar with the territory.”
Even when he finds himself participating in something he doesn’t particularly find interesting, Ford said he’ll “just buckle down and do it.”
“There are things I don’t love doing, but I want to be gracious about it, and I don’t want to shove it into somebody’s face that I don’t like doing it.”
Ford may not have social anxiety, but that doesn’t mean the celebrated actor wants to be in the spotlight all the time.
“I try to blend in. That’s what I do. When I’m getting dressed, if people are going to be wearing a suit, I wear a suit,” he said. “If people are wearing blue jeans, I’m wearing blue jeans. I’m comfortable in all kinds of company. I don’t know why people have an expectation of me. I come in all colors. I don’t know who’s going to show up. But it’s usually me — and it looks familiar.”
Harrison Ford is an absolute legend. Let him be, and stop diagnosing people based on clips you see of them on the internet.
