HGTV icon Carol Duvall dead at 97

Carol Duvall, renowned as the “Queen of Crafts” and one of the original stars of HGTV, has sadly passed away at the age of 97.

She gained national recognition for her arts and crafts shows on ABC and HGTV and passed away on July 31 in Traverse City, Michigan.

Her family confirmed her passing to the New York Times, and her death was met with condolences and tributes from friends, family, and fans.

Duvall hosted ‘The Carol Duvall Show,’ a daily program that aired on HGTV from 1994 to 2005 before moving to the DIY Network from 2005 to 2009. HGTV paid tribute to her on August 3, expressing their condolences and stating: “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.”

Notable figures from the world of television and entertainment also paid their respects. Maureen McCormick, star of ‘The Brady Bunch’ and appearances on several HGTV programs, expressed her condolences, saying she loved Duvall’s show.

Cam Frierson, a former producer on ‘The Carol Duvall Show,’ praised Duvall’s unique contribution to the world of crafts, and said that she inspired the creative guests and audiences who tuned into her show.

He also shared a statement from Duvall’s grandson, which read: “She was such an amazing person, who lead a full life and felt truly blessed with the friends and family she had in her life. She was a pioneer in many ways and will be missed greatly. A true force of nature. We love you so much and miss you more than I can ever say.”

Duvall’s career in television began in 1951 on WOOD-TV, a local channel in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She later worked at WWJ-TV in Detroit for 18 years, hosting her crafting show ‘Here’s Carol Duvall.’ This eventually led to her national series, ‘The Home Show,’ which aired on ABC from 1988 to 1994.

In addition to her television work, Duvall authored two books: ‘Wanna Make Something Out of It?’ in 1972 and ‘Paper Crafting With Carol Duvall’ in 2007.

Even after retiring in 2017, her passion for crafts was still an important part of her life.

We are sending our thoughts and prayers to Carol Duvall’s family at this sad time.
