It’s official – Joe Manganiello files for divorce from Sofia Vergara

News of Colombian-American actress Sofia Vergara’s split from her husband, Joe Manganiello, shocked many – especially as the pair seemed so perfect for each other.

Vergara, 51, and Manganiello, 46, had been married for seven years, and were seen together for the last time just a month ago in Hoboken, N.J., when Vergara visited her actor husband on set for his latest project titled Nonnas with Vince Vaughn.

The attractive duo first met in 2014 at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, and they were introduced by one of Vergara’s Modern Family co-stars, Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

Vergara, who is a judge on the NBC hit America’s Got Talent, was in Italy recently, celebrating her birthday with her friends and her husband very noticeably missing from the festivities.

Fans grew even more suspicious about his absence when the actress posted a picture with the caption: “When life gives u lemons u come to Italy to squeeze them.”

Manganiello then posted a birthday tribute to his wife by writing: “!!Feliz Cumpleaños Sofía!!!” with a grainy, zoomed in photo of them on Instagram.

Though, fans felt his wish was a little ‘cold’, and began suspecting that there was trouble in paradise.

“Something is off. Cold message for her and has two stories about his dog’s birthday. And sofia has not even said thank you,” one person commented underneath the post.

Well, as it turns out, the pair are officially on the path to legally separating, as Manganiello has reportedly filed for divorce – citing “irreconcilable differences”.

Manganiello, 46, filed the paperwork in a Los Angeles County court on Wednesday (July 19). He listed their date of separation as July 2, per Fox News.

An order was also requested for both Vergara and Manganiello to share financial information, including “current income and expenses, and community and separate property, assets and debts.”

The divorce documents also detailed that the couple had written up a prenup prior to their marriage, and that “miscellaneous jewelry and other personal effects” were listed by Manganiello as separate property.

“Earnings and accumulations of Petitioner [Manganiello] before marriage, during marriage, and from and after the date of separation,” docs also stated, via People. “There are additional separate property assets and obligations of each party as mandated by the parties’ Prenuptial Agreement.”

Sources told People that a major source of contention between the couple was Manganiello’s desire to continue growing their family. According to the source: “He really wanted to have a baby with her and she wasn’t interested and it caused a rift.”

(Vergara already has a son, 31-year-old Manolo, from a previous relationship).

Another source told the magazine that Vergara and Manganiello had “always put on a good front publicly,” but had gone through “ups and downs for a long time,” adding: “They’d be fighting or bickering, but then plaster on smiles when others were looking.”

A further insider chimed in: “Their physical attraction to each other only carried their marriage that far. On a day-to-day basis, there are so many other things that need to work. There were several things that didn’t work.”

We hope both Vergara and Manganiello stay strong during this sad time.
