Jodie Sweetin ‘disappointed’ upcoming film sold to controversial Great American Family channel

How rude! Jodie Sweetin is less than pleased about her latest film, Craft Me a Romance, being sold to the Great American Family channel.

The Full House alum said she was “very surprised” to learn her film had been sold to the “traditional” channel without her knowledge. However, she admitted there was little she could do.

“Sometimes, we, as actors, don’t have control over which network buys the projects we are in, nor are we a part of the process in which they get sold,” the actress said in a statement to People. “So I was very surprised to learn by reading about it in the press yesterday that the independent film I worked on over a year ago was sold to Great American Family.”

The Hallmark Channel competitor made news last year when Candace Cameron Bure, Sweetin’s former co-star and chief creative officer for the network, said the network planned to “keep traditional marriage at the core” when asked about the inclusion of LGBTQ+ representation.

The network’s CEO, Bill Abbott, the former CEO of Hallmark Channel, made little attempt to clarify Bure’s comments, adding, “It’s certainly the year 2022, so we’re aware of the trends. There’s no whiteboard that says, ‘Yes, this’ or ‘No, we’ll never go here.'”

“My heart wants to tell stories that have more meaning and purpose and depth behind them,” Bure said of her move from Hallmark. “I knew that the people behind Great American Family were Christians that love the Lord and wanted to promote faith programming and good family entertainment.”

Following her former co-star’s remarks, Sweetin commented saying, “I have always been an outspoken ally for LGBTQ communities, for Black Lives Matter. I’ve always tried to fight for equality and love for everyone.”

“I feel like if you have a voice and you have a platform, it is incumbent on you to be loud and use it,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “Whether people like it all the time or not, sometimes.”

“I love what I do because I know that not everyone has the time [or] is willing to be able to get up and do this,” she added. “So I take it as a huge responsibility.”

As for her latest film, Sweetin said while she’s “disappointed,” she plans to donate any “potential or future money” made from the sale to LGBTQ+ organizations.
