Have mercy! John Stamos confessed to temporarily firing Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen from Full House when they were only 11 months old because he “couldn’t deal.”
The 60-year-old who now has a son of his own made the confession when he appeared on Josh Peck’s Good Guys podcast Monday.
“I did it. I didn’t try,” he said when asked if he tried to fire the Olsen twins from Full House.
Stamos said there was a particular scene that made him lose it and demand the twins be let go from production.
He and Dave Coulier were tasked with watching the twins’ character Michelle Tanner (the daughter of Bob Saget’s character Danny Tanner). During the particular scene neither girl was thrilled about participating.
“We’re carrying the baby downstairs, I think I was holding on to their armpits and Dave was holding her little feet. We take her into the kitchen and hosed her down, we put a fan on her, wrapped her up in paper towels. She was screaming. Both of them, they wanted to be anywhere else but there, and so did I,” Stamos recalled.
“They were 11 months old, and God bless them. And they kept switching.”
The screaming got to Stamos and he “couldn’t deal with it.”
“I said, ‘This is not going to work, guys,’ and I screamed it 10 times. I said, ‘Get rid of them, I can’t work like this.'”
And that was all it took. The show “got rid of them” and replaced Mary-Kate and Ashley “two red-headed kids.”
But after a few days Stamos began to miss the Olsen twins.
“I’m sure their parents loved them and thought they were attractive,” he joked. “It had nothing to do with [them being] red-headed, but they weren’t attractive.”
“I said, ‘Bring the Olsens back, these kids are terrible!'” he said. “It was a day or something, we tried the other kids, it didn’t work.”
When asked if the twins, now 36, knew if they had been fired from the popular sitcom Stamos replied, “They do now.”
