It’s no secret that Kevin Costner is currently embroiled in a stressful and messy divorce with his second wife, Christine Baumgartner.
The ‘Dances With Wolves’ actor has previously said that his 49-year-old wife has been employing “stalling tactics” to prolong their already acrimonious divorce battle.
Baumgartner since revealed that she didn’t understand her and Costner’s prenuptial agreement when signing it, though Costner’s legal team has dismissed this as “gamesmanship of the worst sort”, according to Entertainment Tonight.
Their conflict got pretty heated when Baumgartner refused to leave their family mansion in Santa Barbara, California, despite a prenup clause reportedly requiring that she move out.
According to Us Weekly, Baumgartner apparently initiated the divorce due to 68-year-old Costner’s extensive work commitments, especially while he was filming the hit series ‘Yellowstone’.
Per court documents obtained by the outlet, Costner has alleged that Baumgartner, without his prior knowledge, utilized his credit cards to finance their divorce. Costner also claimed that his ex-spouse has withdrawn a substantial sum of money from his accounts since April 2023.
“[Baumgartner] has made withdrawals from my bank account and incurred charges on my credit card totaling $95,000, payable to her divorce attorneys and forensic accountant. [This occurred] without any prior notice to me,” he said in the documents.
The renowned actor has also hinted that Baumgartner had been contemplating her separation from him for a while, with Costner detailing some of her spending patterns. This includes Baumgartner buying a luxury car just months before their split.
However, Baumgartner has recently fired back, submitting court documents that suggest Costner’s net worth has significantly increased since their marriage in 2004. According to her, Costner only disclosed assets totaling $102,716,000 at that time, but now this figure has allegedly grown exponentially and presently stands around $400 million.
Baumgartner has now petitioned the court to order Costner to reveal his financial details, alleging that the actor is “stonewalling” and withholding important financial information. Her legal team has specifically requested access to documents related to Costner’s upcoming film series, ‘Horizon’, saying that Costner is refusing to provide these records.
Costner’s legal representatives have disagreed with these claims, saying they are “burdensome, oppressive, and harassing.”
