The singer’s funeral just took place, and everyone seemed to be scrutinizing who attended and what they looked like. One person who everyone had their eyes on was Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy.

Liam Payne’s death in Argentina on October 16, 2024, was a heartbreaking incident. His funeral was attended by many of his loved ones including his girlfriend Kate Cassily. She came dressed in all-black with a fur-trimmed coat, dark sunglasses, and with her blonde hair styled in waves. She was accompanied by Damnia Hurley, who is the son of actress Elizabeth Hurley and late producer Steve Bing.
When netizens saw how Cassidy looked, there were mixed reactions. Some were commenting on how she could have dressed ‘more appropriately’ according to them. One person wrote, “She could have worn something more ‘decent’?”

Cassidy also took to social media a while after his death to express her feelings at such an unimaginable loss. On October 22, she shared a slew of pictures of their time together. The pictures included them while on a trip to Disneyland, an outdoor hike, winter moments, and a handwritten note.
“I don’t even know where to begin. My heart is shattered in ways I can’t put into words,” she wrote. She called him her “best friend” and “the love of [her] life.” She opened up about how she was in disbelief about his death, and her struggle with adjusting to her life without him in it. She shared how the couple had plans for their future including their plans for marriage.
She also shared an image of a note he had written her just weeks before he passed, wishing that the two of them get engaged and stay together with the number ‘444’ mentioned. Cassidy also shared what the number 444 stands for and how it is an angel number.
She called Payne her guardian angel and ended her post with writing, “I will love you for the rest of my life and beyond, carrying our dreams and memories with me everywhere I go.”
Cassidy was spotted a few days after the singer’s death in Florida. At the time, she did not seem like herself. The 25-year-old was wearing an oversized graphic T-shirt, gray sweatpants, and slides. She had a dog by her side, which many people thought might have been Nala, a dog she rescued with Payne.
Some people were concerned that Kate Cassidy might be feeling guilty because of the tragic death and the circumstances surrounding it. Payne died after falling from a third-story balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His death was initially not ruled as an accident. Later, reports emerged that Payne had a lot of drugs in his system. Cassidy was in Argentina with the singer but left on October 14, 2024.
After his passing, she asked everyone for privacy and thanked them for their kindness. “I was just like, ‘I need to go home,’ I was so ready to leave,” Cassidy said of it later, she even got a ‘weird rash’ because of her travel anxiety.
“Honestly, love South America but I hate staying in one place for too long,” she said of it, saying she was happy to go back to Florida.
Hours before his death, he shared some media on Snapchat, which would become the last thing he posted. He showed behind-the-scenes moments of his time in Argentina, including clips with Cassidy.
