Martha Stewart reveals how she got fit for Sports Illustrated – “I had two months to get ready”

Everyone was awe-struck earlier this year when Martha Stewart became the oldest woman to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit issue in May.

The savvy businesswoman and foodie recently shared insights into how she prepared for the record-breaking photoshoot.

“I [only] had two months to get ready,” Stewart revealed at a recent Las Vegas fashion event, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. “So let’s just say I’m now an avid Pilates fan.”

At 82 years young, Stewart confidently posed in daring swimsuits for the Sports Illustrated cover, and she previously spilled the rigorous wellness routine she implemented beforehand.

“I didn’t starve myself, but I didn’t eat any bread or pasta for a couple of months,” Stewart mentioned during a ‘Today‘ show appearance in May. “I went to Pilates every other day, and that was great; I’m still going to Pilates every other day ’cause it’s so great. And I just, I live a clean life anyway – good diet and good exercise and healthy skincare and all of that stuff.”

During her keynote speech at the Las Vegas event, Stewart shared how fans responded to the “authentic” cover.

“The response to it was really encouraging because it made women of all ages feel like, ‘If she can do it, then I can do it too,'” Stewart noted.

While Stewart was satisfied with “most” of the photos in the Sports Illustrated feature, she did say that she wasn’t so fussed about the images of herself in a red bathing suit. “They were just OK,” Stewart admitted.

Stewart was ready to embrace the photoshoot experience, but she humorously mentioned there’s one thing she will definitely not be doing any time soon. “Bare midriff. I can’t do that anymore and no amount of Pilates can help me with that,” she joked.

Invited to participate in the Sports Illustrated cover shoot in November 2022, the actual shoot occurred at the end of January 2023 – during which Stewart confidently modeled nine different swimsuits.

“That was kind of a request that I’ve never had before. To be on the cover at my age was a challenge. And I think I met the challenge,” she told ‘Today’.

While many people accused the domestic diva of having cosmetic surgery prior to her shoot, Stewart brushed off the haters.

She did acknowledge the “good genes” on her mom’s side, saying: “My mom was my role model. After four kids, she was still wearing a two-piece bathing suit. And she still had two more after that, and she was still wearing a two-piece bathing suit, so that’s pretty fabulous. My genes are good.”

Well, Stewart’s impressive looks seem to be down to much more than good genes!
