Meghan McCain said Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles are the “most boring people in the world” in a discussion on the future of the British monarchy on “The View.”
The co-host of the U.S. talk show is no stranger to making headlines with her own controversial views on “The View”. As the only conservative on the 5-strong panel she often gets into heated discussions.
In 2019 she famously called fellow co-host Joy Behar a “bitch” during a discussion about Trump’s 2020 campaign, and more recently she was told to “stop talking” by Whoopi Goldberg in another political spat with her co hosts.
In this week’s show the panel was discussing the future of the monarchy and the possibility that it could come to an end after Queen Elizabeth.
On the show’s Twitter page, they posed the big question: “IS THE BRITISH MONARCHY ON BORROWED TIME? With the passing of Prince Philip as well as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepping away from their royal duties, one historian thinks the monarchy could see its end game soon – the co-hosts weigh in,” the tweet read.
During the episode, Whoopi Goldberg asked her fellow host Meghan McCain about her thoughts on the claim. “I would literally eat a muddy tire than to watch anything having to do with Camilla and Charles,” said McCain.
McCain stated that the pair are the most boring people in the world while adding she can say that because she is an American. She acknowledged that people adore the Queen but shared that she did not like how they treated the Sussexes.
The 36-year-old added that she believes fellow Americans are protective of Meghan Markle and her husband Prince Harry mainly because Meghan Markle relocated to the U.K. to try to “modernize something, in my perspective – old archaic and deeply irrelevant.”
The initial tweet quotes British writer Dame Hilary Mantel who claims the royal family won’t outlast William and there is no interest in it. The 68-year-old who wrote award-winning historical novels “Wolf Hall”, later adapted for TV, has also described Kate Middleton as a “mannequin” with a “plastic smile.”
In discussing the claim Joy Behar also agreed with Mantel’s thoughts on the monarchy.
“Prince William is sweet, but kind of boring. Kate [Middleton] is lovely but — nobody’s really excited about them and they got rid of the two who were really the upstarts,” she told host Whoopi Goldberg.
“[Harry and Meghan] were the two that were going to give this some juice,” she said. “I don’t think that England is ready to be stuck with Charles and Camila. The monarchy could really go the way of the Whig Party.”
Meghan and Harry relocated to Santa Barbara with their son Archie after stepping down from royal duties. The pair are expecting their second child, a baby girl, due sometime this summer.
McCain expressed she is pleased that they now have a safe space where they can live their lives freely.
Behar said Charles needed to do something exciting and suggested stand-up comedy to which host Whoopi Goldberg came to the prince’s defense and said having met him she could attest that he was “very funny”.
“He’s got a great sense of humor and he actually dragged England into talking about what to do about making the planet better,” said Whoopi.
“People go through what they go through, I think Elizabeth has done an extraordinary job and you know people love their history and they would like to keep some of it, nobody’s history is good on the planet so lets hope all the folks in place can make it better and have a good time doing it.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s jaw-dropping interview with Oprah Winfrey in March sparked a debate on whether the monarchy should be abolished. The hashtag #AbolishTheMonarchy flooded Twitter in light of Meghan’s claims over her treatment as a royal.
An act of parliament would be needed to abolish the royal family, signed by the Queen.
In this highly unlikely event the Queen would have to give up Buckingham Palace leaving the Cambridges to fend for themselves and pursue financial independence like the Sussexes.
McCain’s latest comments come after it was revealed Meghan Markle is set to publish her very own children’s book next month.
‘The Bench” is about the special relationship between a father and son as seen through the mother’s eyes.
“The Bench started as a poem I wrote for my husband on Father’s Day, the month after Archie was born,” Meghan said in a statement.
