Patrick Dempsey is no longer just “McDreamy,” the heartthrob now proudly boasts the title: Sexiest Man Alive.
The actor was revealed as the titleholder during Tuesday night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live.
“I’m glad it’s happening at this point in my life,” the 57-year-old tells People. “It’s nice to have the recognition, and certainly my ego takes a little bump, but it gives me the platform to use it for something positive.”
People has been naming the “sexiest man alive” since 1985, giving the first title to Mel Gibson.
Since then the magazine Harrison Ford, John Legend, Brad Pitt, Idris Elba, and Blake Shelton have been among the winners.
This year, Dempsey was finally recognized for his good looks and illustrious career which includes acting and professional race car driving.
“I was completely shocked, and then I started laughing, like, this is a joke, right? I’ve always been the bridesmaid!”
Dempsey, a father of three, joked he completely forgot about the award and “never even contemplated being in this position.”
“So my ego is good.”
Even if his ego inflates a little bit, he says his kids are there to bring him back down to earth.
They’re “just going to make fun of me and pick on me and figure out every reason why I shouldn’t be,” he says. “Which is good, they keep me young.”
