Say what you want, but being the wife of a politician is likely anything but easy… At least, that must be how Melania Trump feels right now as her husband Donald Trump faces mounting legal woes.
The 53-year-old wife of the former POTUS, 77, is widely known to enjoy her privacy, often preferring to stay out of the limelight.
But recently, people are beginning to notice one concerning detail about her relationship, and it’s not looking good…
Melania and Donald Trump – early years
Donald and Melania Trump’s relationship goes back decades, and it all started in 1998, Donald walked through the doors at a modeling event at the Kit Kat Club during New York Fashion Week.
Melania had been there working as a model, hoping to get recognition from photographers and producers.
At the time, Donald had recently divorced his second wife Marla Maples, and was attending the event with a date. Though, when he saw Melania, he recalled how he wanted to get to know her instead.
“I went crazy. I was actually supposed to meet somebody else. There was this great supermodel sitting next to Melania,” Donald told Larry King in 2005. “They said, ‘Look, there’s so and so.’ I said, ‘Forget about her. Who is the one on the left? And it was Melania.”
Since Trump was there with someone else and still asked her for her phone number, Melania admitted she was “turned off” and said he was “totally out of the question,” her best friend Edit Molnar said.
“Melania said, ‘He’s here with a woman. I am absolutely not giving him my number,’” Molnar recalled. “She wouldn’t even consider it. Donald did all the work.”
“He wanted my number,” Melania told Tatler. “But he was on a date, so of course I didn’t give it to him. I said, ‘I am not giving you my number; give me yours and I will call you.’ If I give him my number, I’m just one of the women he calls.”
Eventually, Donald and Melania began a relationship. According to Molnar, Melania quickly changed her style, but their relationship wasn’t great. The two broke up several times before patching things up and eventually moving in together in 2001. Melania got her green card around the same time, and was living at Trump’s penthouse in the Trump Tower in Manhattan.
The couple eventually married in Florida, and in 2006 they welcomed their son, Barron Trump.
Keeping her distance…
By now, the public is already quite aware of Donald’s legal troubles, having been indicted a record-breaking four times this year. Though, many people are noticing a worrying detail – that his usually loyal wife is nowhere to be seen.
The former First Lady has reportedly been spending most of her time in Manhattan, New York, away from her husband, who has been playing golf in New Jersey. All the while, the businessman has campaigned across the country and denied all the charges against him.
People magazine spoke to a source close to the situation, who revealed to the outlet that Melania is trying to distance herself from her husband amid his growing legal issues. “Melania publicly supports her husband but privately prefers a life with 100 per cent privacy and no press scrutiny,” the source said, via The Mirror.
“She knows how her husband is but still believes there has been too much dumping on him and wants nothing to do with any of it,” the source continued, adding: “She hates all of the legal problems and says very little about them anytime, anywhere. She leads her own life.”
The source also explained that Melania only has a small circle of trusted people, saying: “Unlike others who belong to her husband’s clubs, she doesn’t rely on outside stimulants to guide her daily life. She has her son, other family members, and select friends […] So this fourth indictment is another problem for her husband. Not for her.”
This is news to many of us, as just months ago Melania confirmed that she wanted to be First Lady again – she even said her bond with Donald was “stronger than ever”.
