Al Pacino and Robert De Niro are two of the biggest Hollywood acting legends of all time, and their careers have often run parallel to one another: they both broke out in the 1970s and co-starred in several films, including The Godfather Part II, Heat and The Irishman.
Both actors’ careers are still going strong, but recently they’ve been in the headlines for a different reason: becoming late-in-life dads. De Niro recently welcomed his seventh child, and Pacino, 83, announced he is expecting a baby with his girlfriend.
Recently, De Niro opened up about the new arrival — and congratulated his fellow acting legend on the exciting news.
De Niro, now 79, recently welcomed his seventh child: a daughter named Gia Virginia Chen De Niro with his girlfriend Tiffany Chen.
When the Taxi Driver star was congratulated on the new arrival during an appearance on Today, De Niro took the opportunity to give a shout-out to his Heat co-star Pacino.
“Listen, Al Pacino just had a baby, I was told yesterday morning, and he’s a few years older than me,” De Niro said. “God bless him, very happy for him.”
The 83-year-old Godfather legend is expecting a child — his fourth — with his 29-year-old girlfriend Noor Alfallah, who is reportedly eight months pregnant.
According to TMZ, Pacino and Alfallah have been together since April 2022. Alfallah was previously in relationships with Rolling Stones icon Mick Jagger and billionaire Nicolas Berggruen.
Pacino is the father of three kids including a pair of twins named Anton and Olivia, who are now 22 years old. Their mother is actress Beverly D’Angelo, who Pacino was with from 1997 to 2003. Pacino’s oldest child, his daughter Julie, was born in 1989. Her mother is acting coach Jan Tarrant.
While De Niro didn’t offer Pacino any parenting advice, the Raging Bull Oscar-winner opened up about fatherhood when asked if he’s a “different parent” today.
“I have certain awareness — when you’re older you have awareness of certain things in life, dynamics, everything, family dynamics,” he said on Today. “You can’t avoid learning certain things and how you can deal with those and manage them and this and that, the usual. It’s amazing, but I’m very happy about it.”
Host Hoda Kotb then gave De Niro a gift for his newborn: a Today Show onesie, which the actor happily accepted: “Gia, this is for your, honey,” he said, holding the outfit up for the camera.
De Niro currently stars in the new film About My Father. Later this year he will appear in his newest collaboration with director Martin Scorsese, Killers of the Flower Moon, which received critical acclaim at Cannes.
Pacino is also still going strong: he recently co-starred in films House of Gucci and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and received an Oscar nomination for 2019’s The Irishman, in which he co-starred alongside De Niro.
