Sarah Paulson opens up about secret to 32-year age gap relationship with Holland Taylor

Despite a 32-year age gap, Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor have enjoyed a happy, long-term relationship.

How they’ve been able to maintain it has been kept under wraps until recently when the American Horror Story actor appeared on Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett’s podcast, SmartLess and explained the simple, yet unexpected reason for their success.

“We don’t live together, that’s the sort of secret,” Paulson, 49, revealed to the podcast hosts.

“Holland and I, we spend plenty of time together but we don’t live in the same house,” she added. “We’ve been together for a long time now and I think part of it has to do with, we’re together when we wanna be and we’re not when we don’t.”

Paulson was asked if the two ever considered a less dramatic move and contemplated separate bedrooms, but Paulson replied “No, because we like to fall asleep holding hands.”

“We sleep holding hands — I like to sleep near her,” she said of her longtime partner Taylor, 81.

The actress also explained how the couple had previous experiences with dating, so while Taylor had never been in a “long-term relationship,” Paulson had been in two.

“And so, her life, and to get to be her age and sort of not having really cohabitated with someone for a long time,” she explained. “I think it was a lot to sort of all of a sudden have me and all my neediness in her space.”

Paulson previously mentioned their arrangement was beneficial to her because she enjoys her alone time, while Taylor is more of a social butterfly.

“She’s much more social, and I like a little bit of alone time, so I have that. She spends some time with friends and not with me, so it’s a good balance.”

While their arrangement may be unconventional to me or you, I say whatever works for your relationship, go for it!
