Shannen Doherty gives fans ‘miracle’ health update amid cancer battle

Amid her devastating battle with stage 4 cancer, Shannen Doherty has managed to find solace in a positive health update.

The actress, widely known for her role in Beverly Hills, 90210, shared the encouraging news on the January 28 episode of her podcast, Let’s Be Informative.

Having been transparent about the highs and lows she’s experienced during the past few years, fans across the globe are rooting for Doherty as she spoke about being hopeful for what this positive update could mean for her future.

Shannen Doherty’s cancer diagnosis

Doherty has been courageously battling breast cancer since her initial diagnosis almost a decade ago in 2015. Although she achieved remission two years later, she disclosed in 2019 that the cancer had returned, progressing to stage 4.

In June 2023, Doherty disclosed the distressing news that the cancer had spread to her brain and later to her bones. Despite these setbacks, she has still remained committed to living each day to the fullest, and is an inspiration to all.

Previously, Doherty has shared her belief that the procedures involved in her journey to becoming a mother might have contributed to her cancer. She raised concerns about the potential link between IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) and the recurrence of her illness, and how her desperation to conceive could have had an adverse affect on her health.

A “miracle” update

During her latest podcast episode, Doherty – who also starred in hit series Charmed – revealed that she had been undergoing a new transfusion treatment plan.

Initially, the results were not evident after four treatments, and there were suggestions to switch to an alternative approach. However, her perseverance paid off, and after the sixth and seventh treatments, a breakthrough occurred in breaking down the blood-brain barrier, marking a significant positive development.

Describing this as a “miracle,” the actress expressed how grateful she was for the positive turn of events. “Do I call that a miracle? For me, that happens to be a miracle right now,” she said, adding that she was grateful for her decision to keep persisting with the treatment plan despite early uncertainties.

While the actress didn’t reveal the specifics of her current treatment, she is optimistic about the potential outcomes. She described the breakthrough in breaking the blood-brain barrier as a “miracle of that drug and a miracle of maybe God intervening.”

In a heartfelt conversation with her radiation oncologist, Dr. Amin Mirhadi, Doherty spoke about the importance of recognizing miracles in unexpected places, saying: “Sometimes you’re looking for miracles in all the wrong places and they’re right there in front of your face.”

Despite facing significant health struggles, Doherty has always maintained a positive attitude. Reflecting on the challenges of 2023, which included brain surgery and personal turmoil, she shared on her podcast that, amidst the “massive health struggles, massive personal struggles, a lot of heartbreak and fear,” she found herself moving towards “the happiest version of herself.”

Amidst a challenging health diagnosis, Shannen Doherty’s resilience and optimism only serve to inspire others – especially as she navigates her cancer journey with the upmost strength and courage.
