Fans are going wild after spotting an unusual detail on Taylor Swift as she stepped on stage to accept one of her seven trophies at the MTV Video Music Awards.
The 34-year-old pop star, who’s been breaking records with her stratospheric rise to fame, appeared at the awards show on September 11 in a sparkling silver mini dress that was out of this world.

Taylor Swift had an incredible evening at the 40th annual MTV Video Music Awards, where she walked away with seven awards, including the top prize for her video “Fortnight,” a collaboration with Post Malone.
Breaking even more records, Swift is now the solo artist with the most career VMA wins, and the artist with the most video of the year wins.
In her acceptance speech for her third consecutive award for video of the year, she thanked her boyfriend Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who was not at the event.
“When I’d finish a take, and I’d say cut, and we’d be done with that take, I’d always just hear someone like cheering and like ‘whoo’ from across the studio,” she shares. “And that one person was my boyfriend, Travis. Everything this man touches turns to happiness and fun and magic.”
Tailor made
But it wasn’t just her collection of awards or her acceptance speech that created conversations.
When the “Eras Tour” star walked down the red carpet, she stole the spotlight in a tartan corset and skirt by Dior, thigh-high boots and fingerless gloves that stretched past her elbows.
The real scene-stealer came when she stepped on stage with a sparkling silver mini by Monse. Playful but glamorous, the asymmetrical mini was made with cargo utility straps and the body was embellished with intricate detailing that designed a UFO print showing an alien invasion of the countryside.
Swift’s outfit was tailor made but on the Monse website, a similar dress that’s “inspired by the iconic sci-fi films of the 1950s” is available for $990 with an estimated shipping date of January 2025.
‘This looks slays’
According to an April 2024 interview on iHeartRadio, her UFO inspired dress is likely a nod to the lyrics in her song “Down Bad,” where she says being “love bombed” is a “metaphor” for being abandoned by aliens after an abduction.
“Like this girl is abducted by aliens but she wanted to stay with them,” the singer says in the clip that she shares on Instagram. “And then they drop her off back in her hometown. She’s like, ‘Wait, no. Where are you going? I liked it there, it was weird but it was cool, come back.”
The quirky design invited both admiration and confusion, but many Swifties on social media picked up on the reference, calling her outfit the “Down Bad dress.”
Emphasizing the tweet with several exclamation marks, one user writes “OMG the dress has a spaceship!!! Down Bad!!!” A second raves, “Oh my god a Down Bad dress?!? With a UFO?!? Oh this looks slays!”
“The down bad reference dress is amazing and she looks sooo good,” writes a third.
Meanwhile, other users gushed over her impeccable style.
“The silver spaceship dress was such a showstopper! Taylor never fails to surprise and delight with her fashion choices,” shares one, while another expresses confusion: “What’s on Taylor Swift’s dress?”
“Taylor [you] are killing every damn look,” offers a third.
