Tom Cruise reveals the truth after speculation that he’s had cosmetic surgery

It’s hard to believe that Tom Cruise has just turned 62.

The action hero looks remarkably youthful, and when Top Gun: Maverick hit the screens, it was as if the iconic pilot hadn’t aged a day.

But according to the actor himself, there’s no plastic surgery involved. So, what’s his secret?

Hollywood icon Tom Cruise shows no signs of slowing down, even as he recently turned 62. Instead, he’s busier than ever with new projects. His latest daring feat took place during the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris. Cruise, known for his adrenaline-fueled stunts, stunned the crowd when he leapt from the roof of the Stade de France and landed dramatically on the arena floor.

Not stopping there, he grabbed the Olympic flag and sped off on a motorcycle. The spectacle continued with a film showing Cruise parachuting from a plane, landing next to the iconic Hollywood sign, which was adorned with the Olympic rings — a nod to Los Angeles hosting the Games in four years.

For fans of Cruise, this daring display was no surprise. The actor, an avid sports enthusiast and thrill-seeker, is famous for performing his own stunts in his films, without relying on special effects. One of his most dangerous scenes was in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, where he climbed the world’s tallest building in Dubai. Cruise has often shared that his love for stunts began at a young age, believing that movies are more authentic when he does everything himself.

”I was that little kid. As soon as I could ride a bike, I set it up so that I could jump over the trash cans. So, I start down that hill. The pedals are going so fast, [and] I couldn’t keep my legs on the pedals. Halfway through it, the wood breaks. My body’s flying like a rag doll! I hear a child screaming,” Cruise shared during an interview posted on Instagram.

For moviegoers, it might seem like Cruise can do just about anything on screen — but what many may not realize is the sheer amount of hard work that goes on behind the scenes.

To pull off these daring stunts, it’s absolutely essential for the 62-year-old star to stay in peak physical condition. It’s not just about maintaining mental sharpness, but also about being able to handle the intense physical demands that come with his roles.

Tom Cruise training routine

According to Men’s Health, Cruise follows a five-day workout routine that includes both weight training and cardio. Beyond that, the actor seems to keep active in as many different ways as possible.

”Sea-kayaking, caving… fencing, treadmill, weights… rock climbing, hiking… I jog… I do so many different activities,” the 62-year-old told the magazine in 2023.

Some reports suggest that Cruise can be found at the gym as early as 5:30 AM, though he isn’t a fan of heavy lifting. However, his workouts are known to be intense. His favorite strength-building exercises include one-armed barbell presses, weighted lunges, and deadlifts.

Looking at a typical workout week, it quickly becomes clear how much effort Cruise puts in. On Day 1, he focuses on his upper body, working on his biceps, chest, and shoulders. Day 2 usually involves some fun activity outside the gym. The next day, it’s back to the gym for deadlifts, hammer curls, and other strength exercises. On Day 4, he enjoys another recreational activity. By the end of the week, the Mission: Impossible star focuses on his lower body and leg strength.

Expert PT Nick Lower has told GQ Magazine that Tom has the best team in the world, staying on top of the latest fitness science and technology.

”Tom trains religiously,” Lower said.

”I do know that he uses this very expensive, high-end machine that instead of just being a normal chest press machine, for example, it works you on your eccentric load, pushing you back.”

”So instead of doing a set of 10, you could do a set of five and you’ve done just as much work. Whatever he’s doing, it works. You meet him in the flesh and he looks 10 years younger”.

Recent photos of Tom clearly show that he’s staying dedicated to his fitness routine. When Tom Cruise attended the Women’s Gold Medal match between Brazil and the United States during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, his impressive biceps were hard to miss.

Tom Cruise diet

According to the Daily Mail, Cruise is also very particular about his diet, preferring to include a range of healthy foods.

His favorites include blueberries, dark chocolate, raw oats, ginger, beets, broccoli, salmon, and spinach. These foods offer a mix of essential nutrients and vitamins that help keep him energized and in top shape.

Instead of three large meals, he typically consumes 15 healthy snacks throughout the day. When dining out, he often orders steamed white fish and vegetables, avoiding oil, sauces, and butter. Cruise is also known for abstaining from alcohol, consistently opting for non-alcoholic beverages.

The actor reportedly avoids all forms of processed foods and high-sugar snacks. He rarely indulges in chocolate or chips, preferring fruit instead, which is said to help him “reduce any anxiety.” Most of his meals are prepared by his personal chef and are typically cooked at low temperatures. This method of cooking preserves the nutritional content while enhancing the flavor and moisture of the food.

Overall, Tom has been quite reserved when it comes to discussing his diet with the press. However, he seems more generous when sharing with his colleagues. According to his co-star Simon Pegg, Tom is ”disciplined to a T.”

Pegg also revealed that Tom offered the cast of the fifth installment of Mission: Impossible the chance to enjoy meals prepared by his personal chef.

”It wasn’t like boring rabbit food or a protein shake. It was like great stews and these lovely little dates filled with peanut butter and sprinkled with coconut for snacks, and these little balls of truffle that were great,” Pegg told E!.

Plastic surgery

Cruise has spent much of his life in the spotlight, seemingly unchanged over the years. We’ve all hoped it’s just a case of good genes at work.

But as the four-time Oscar nominee approached his late 40s, rumors swirled about possible cosmetic enhancements. There was widespread speculation that the star had undergone various procedures, including rhinoplasty, a hair transplant, Botox, and fillers.

In 2009, The New York Post stirred up speculation about Cruise and his then-wife, Katie Holmes. While in Brazil to promote Tom’s film Valkyrie, the couple was based at the iconic Copacabana Palace. However, rumors swirled that they made a secret detour to the private island of renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Ivo Pitanguy.

Adding fuel to the fire, Tom, Katie, and their daughter Suri were photographed dining on Pitanguy’s exclusive island in Brazil’s Bay of Kings.

Dr. Ivo Pitanguy is credited with sparking Brazil’s obsession with plastic surgery. He is rumored to have performed procedures on notable figures such as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, French President François Mitterrand, and even Frank Sinatra.

Tom has never commented on his encounter with the world-renowned surgeon. Dr. Ivo Pitanguy passed away on August 6, 2016, just one day after he carried the Olympic flame in his wheelchair, ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

”Puffy appearance”

At the 2016 BAFTA Awards, Cruise once again captured the media’s and photographers’ attention. Tabloids were quick to comment on his ”unusually puffy appearance.” British newspaper The Sun even sought an opinion from Alice Henshaw, owner of Harley Street Injectables. According to Henshaw, the ”inflated” and ”puffy” look of Cruise’s face suggested the use of fillers.

“Tom looked as if he had undereye filler and filler around his mouth and nasal labial fold in 2016,” she said.

Alice Henshaw also commented on the possibility that the Top Gun star might have undergone a hair transplant. According to her, Cruise’s appearance suggested not only the use of fillers but also potential alterations to his hairline.

”At almost 60, Tom’s hairline has remained relatively the same, although slightly thinning, which does suggest he may have had hair transplants,” she said.

Henshaw’s observations fueled further speculation about the extent of cosmetic procedures the actor may have had.

Possible “post-procedure swelling”

In 2021, Cruise once again drew attention during a game between the LA Dodgers and SF Giants. Seated among the crowd at Oracle Park, Cruise appeared to be in great spirits, chatting with fans, posing for selfies, and fist-bumping fellow spectators.

However, he didn’t quite look like his usual self—a change noted by many on social media. The tabloids also picked up on Cruise’s “puffy” appearance, reigniting speculation about whether the Hollywood star had undergone some form of cosmetic surgery.

Registered aesthetics nurse Dawn Attewell, speaking to the Daily Mail, suggested that the photos from the game showed signs of “excessive filler” and possible “post-procedure swelling.”

“Often, surgical procedures such as a platysmal plasty, or neck lift, combined with a mid-facelift could create this type of swelling in these areas,” Attewell said.

Cruise has always been tight-lipped when it comes to discussing his appearance, rarely commenting on whether he’s had any cosmetic procedures. The Mission Impossible star has kept a low profile on the subject, which is entirely understandable.

However, the rumors haven’t escaped him. In a 2012 interview with Playboy Magazine, when asked if he had ever undergone any cosmetic procedures, his response was clear and concise:

“I haven’t, and I never would.”

On a basic level, people are naturally curious about others, especially those in the spotlight. In a world where authenticity is increasingly valued, knowing whether a celebrity has had surgery often sparks conversations.

But if Tom insists that he’s never had cosmetic surgery, I choose to believe him. When you see him today, you can notice the wrinkles and signs of aging, just like any man in his 60s.

But what matters most is that he’s healthy and still passionate about making movies. For that, we are incredibly grateful. Tom has brightened our screens for decades, giving us unforgettable moments in cinema. His dedication and love for his craft have left a lasting impact, and he still inspires us today!
