Tom Welling posted an Instagram story of the New York skyline this week, and some fans say the reflection in his hotel window showed more than he meant to share.
Tom Welling probably meant to share the impressive view from his hotel room, but ended up exposing another view entirely to his 2.2 million followers.
“NO WAY TOM WELLING ACCIDENTALLY POSTED HIS D**K ON HIS INSTAGRAM STORY,” one user on X wrote in disbelief.
The Smallville star, 49, posted an Instagram story on Friday showing the New York skyline, with the caption “Hello NYCC.” Within minutes, some people said the reflection in the glass appeared to show him undressed. Screenshots spread to other platforms like wilfire. The story stayed up for more than 10 hours before it was deleted.
Not everyone could see what was supposedly there, though. Some fans said they couldn’t make out anything out of the ordinary in the picture, which someone replied to asking if they we’re visually impaired. Another joked that people were “just looking at clouds and imagining shapes.”
A lot of the talk has also been centered around how it stayed up for so long. “How did he not notice his reflection on his Instagram story before sharing it?” one person asked. Another pointed out: “The fact that it’s been 10 hours and is still up…”
Welling is in New York for the Smallville reunion
Welling hasn’t commented publicly on the post. On Saturday, he instead shared a new story showing him signing merchandise for fans at the Javits Center in New York.
He was in town for New York Comic Con, where he joined Michael Rosenbaum, Kristin Kreuk, Erica Durance and Julie Snyder on “The Road to Superman: 25 Years of Smallville” panel. On the show he played a teenage Clark Kent for all ten seasons, from 2001 to 2011, and briefly returned as Clark in the 2019 crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Welling is not the first star caught out
Welling’s certainly isn’t the first star to expose a bit more than intended on socials. The Real Housewives of Orange County star, Vicki Gunvalson, posted a photo in which a topless reflection showed in the packaging of a pair of headphones. She took it down and apologized. “I clearly couldn’t see the reflection when I posted the image on Instagram,” she said. “I apologize to anyone that saw the picture and am deeply embarrassed.”
In September 2020, Chris Evans shared a video of his phone screen on Instagram and accidentally showed an explicit photo from his camera roll. He deleted the video. Comedian Whitney Cummings also accidentally shared a nude photo on her Instagram Story.
Eiza González ended up accidentally exposing her boyfriend at the time, Josh Duhamel, when she posted an Instagram video of herself in a bikini, and fans spotted Duhamel getting undressed in the mirror. She deleted the video and posted it again with the reflection cropped out.
