Deputy pulls over speeding car, moments later he delivers a baby

Tuesday morning, Deputy Robert Pounds caught a car driving 63 mph in a 45 mph zone. Pounds pulled the car over and as he began to approach the vehicle, the driver started asking for help.

“Officer, you have the right to stop me, I’m not gonna even lie,” Wilfrid said. “We have a baby coming out. That’s the reason why I’m speeding.”

As Wilfrid calmly explained the situation to Pounds, his wife, Fabienne Gorges, 35, screamed in the passenger seat.

Pounds radioed for backup and an ambulance before he went back to his vehicle to retrieve a pair of gloves and a blanket.

The deputy barely had time to make it back to the vehicle. Within moments he helped deliver the couple’s child.

“Congratulations, you have a baby girl,” Pounds said.

In a video the sheriff’s office shared on Facebook, Pounds said he never saw anything like it in his 26 years of being on the job.

“This was definitely not your typical traffic stop. In my 26 years as a law enforcement officer, I’ve never encountered a traffic stop where someone was giving birth,” Pounds said. “It was exciting, it was a bit nerve-racking, but I was happy to be the one to help these people have their child and I’m glad everything turned out OK.”

Wilfrid did not receive a citation for speeding, instead he left the scene with a photo of himself with Pounds and a new daughter.

What a story these parents will have to tell their daughter when she grows up!

I wish this family nothing but the best.

If you would like to congratulate them, share this on Facebook!
