Hospital hands out gas cards to cancer patients amid sky-high gas prices, hopes to prevent interrupted care

We may joke about how the sudden rise of gas has kept many of us inside our homes once again, but some don’t have the luxury of staying home.

One hospital in Kentucky is making sure its patients are able to keep their appointments by handing out gas station gift cards.

Mercy Health Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky recently announced their cancer care center would handing out gift cards to ensure that cancer patients would still be able to afford to drive to their treatments.

“It’s vital that cancer patients continue their treatment plans uninterrupted, and the Lourdes Hospital’s cancer care team didn’t want high gas prices to keep patients from their appointments,” the hospital said in a statement.

Thanks to a grant from the American Cancer Society and a donation from FiveStar, the purchase was made possible.

Now dozens of cancer patients will be able to continue their treatment without worrying about the cost of gas.
