Man sees elderly woman crying and drops everything to help – his actions go viral

Seeing store shelves empty with most people buying more than they need amid such uncertain times you would be forgiven for feeling like it’s us against the world.

The focus inward as we try and look after our own families and focus on our own needs means we can overlook those around us who might need our help.

But one man is inspiring a nation of people after giving his elderly neighbor just what she needed during a traumatic time in her life.

Aldon O’neill Ward III reached out to a complete stranger and helped her on a day she was really struggling. We all have them but most of us don’t expect a stranger to be the one that helps us through it.

But this dad saw a woman in need and did what he could to help.

Since 2011 Aldon had seen an elderly couple walk through his neighborhood but on this occasion he noticed the woman walking on her own.

Blow kisses at his excited dogs

“Since 2011 I’ve seen an older couple walking the neighborhood every morning and evening. Matching windbreaker outfits, large white new balance sneakers and a stick in hand,” Aldon wrote on Facebook.

He said they never exchanged names but the couple would always wave and blow kisses at his excited dogs.

But fast forward to 2020 and Aldon was outside watering his yard when he noticed the woman alone and crying.

“She looked up at me through her large blinder style sunglasses and with a trembling voice said ‘I don’t have him anymore.’ My heart sank,” he wrote.

“‘Ma’am?’ I said, as I approached her. She turned and with tears streaming from behind here large sunglasses not another word was spoken, we hugged. Big hugs. Like she was my mom or my grandmother.”

After hugging the woman said: ““I’m just trying do the things that we used to so I still feel like he’s around…. I needed that.”
