Officer responding to welfare check on elderly woman sees overgrown yard — so he grabbed a lawn mower

Living by yourself and taking care of a household isn’t easy, especially when you’re a senior.

Fortunately, there are a lot of good people out there who recognize the value of protecting and serving our elderly.

Officer Siltala is one of these heroes.

Photo goes viral

In a now-viral photo, the police officer is seen pushing a mower through overgrown grass beside an elderly woman’s driveway.

“I cannot say how proud stuff like this makes us,” said the Orono police staffer who wrote the post.

The police who wrote the post also took the opportunity to post a joke.

“Not sure why Officer McCoy, who took the picture, couldn’t grab the trimmer,” the unknown staffer wrote.

The picture received a lot of attention, and several people in the Orono community reached out and wanted to help.

“We have had a few people inquire about helping this resident. We will do some checking and get back to those who have shown interest,” the police wrote in an update.

This great gesture deserves respect. It’s also an important reminder of what a fantastic job many police officers do every day!

Kindness and compassion need to be taught from a young age.

Love wins again. Thank you to the officer who took the time to help this lady.

Remember, you will be elderly some day.

Thanks officer for helping her, God bless you. Share if you agree!
