10-year-old boy beats rare bone cancer, gets standing ovation after final chemo treatment – let’s wish him well

A 10-year-old boy from El Paso, Texas was celebrated by nurses and doctors after beating a rare and deadly form of cancer.

As per reports, staff at El Paso Children’s Hospital gave Logan Pena a standing ovation after he overcame the odds to defy Ewing’s Sarcoma.

Little Logan was diagnosed with the cancer in October, 2019, and said that he was “surprised” when doctors delivered the bad news.

“I was surprised because I didn’t know that I would actually get diagnosed,” said Pena. “I didn’t think it could happen.”

As per statistics from St.Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Ewing Sarcoma is a type of bone cancer, and one so rare that only about 200 children and young adults are diagnosed with it each year in the United States.

Naturally, Logan’s parents were devastated after he was diagnosed. Mom Christine Pena told how they searched the length and breadth of the country in search of ways to save their son.

“Honestly, I think we were in a daze and then it just turned into research mode,” she said. “I had to research everything about it. I think it’s all just barely setting in.”

Fortunately for them, doctors at El Paso believed they had a fighting chance of saving Logan’s life. Fast forward to now, and all the chemotherapy sessions and surgeries to remove tumours appear to have a paid off.

“When I woke up, knowing I was going to ring the bell, I was excited, but nervous. When they started bringing the bell I was sweating a lot, I couldn’t believe it,” an ecstatic Logan said.

Christine said: “He’s kept his humor through all of this. We joke, a lot. So, that’s kept a lot of our spirits up.

“As hard as life is right now with quarantine and with cancer, it’s all about being together as a family, and embracing the positivity and gratefulness that life offers. He’s taught us lessons that we could never learn.”

This brave 10-year-old is now due to start fifth grade this year. We couldn’t be any happier for him!

Wow! To face such a menacing and terrible disease so young requires not only the courage of a lion but also the love and support of those around you. Luckily for Logan, he has both!
