Love has little to do with how many times you utter the words “I love you”.
And to be happy in one’s marriage doesn’t just depend on finding the right person – it’s also important to do the right thing.
When you get married, you promise to always be there for your partner, for better or for worse. I think American couple Jon and Marci Newman really embody this principle.

Everything began when Jon and Marci’s 17-year-old daughter, Mackenna, snapped a photo of her dad and posted it on Twitter.
But along with the photo came a heartbreaking message.
In October, mother Marci received the devastating news that she had thyroid cancer. She began radiation treatment which meant she had to be alone in her bedroom.
But she was not alone because husband Jon refused to leave her side.
Jon found a way to support his wife, without being exposed to the radiation himself.
“My mom has to stay in her room in isolation for her cancer radiation so my dad set up a desk at her door to keep her company and I’m crying,” Mackenna wrote on Twitter.
Mackenna uploaded the image in mid-April and it has since been shared by over 7,000 people.
According to Mackenna, her dad sits outside her mother’s room “the entire time”. Mother Marci for her part says this is typical of her loving husband Jon:
“Jon goes to every doctor’s appointment, every blood test, every surgery, every radiation. And as you can see, if he can’t be by my side he is as close as he can get,” Marci told The Independent.
What a wonderful and loving husband you are Jon! Such a touching example of what love and marriage are truly about.
