David Jacobs, creator of ‘Dallas’ and ‘Knots Landing’ dies aged 84 – rest in peace

David Jacobs, celebrated creator of Dallas and Knots Landing, has died aged 84, according to saddening reports.

Jacob’s son confirmed the tragic news, revealing that his father had passed away at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California on August 20 from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease.

Jacobs is best known for his role in creating one of the biggest shows of the 1980s, Dallas. The primetime soap opera ran for 14 seasons, garnering the love and support of a huge audience. Its total of 357 episodes was a record for the longest-running series at the time.

Jacob then created spin-off series Knots Landing, also on air for an impressive 14 seasons.

As well as working as a TV writer, Jacobs also served as executive producer on several shows including Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and Homefront. Homefront even earned Jacobs two Emmy nominations in 1992 and 1993.

Needless to say, tributes are flooding in for the 84-year-old, also credited with co-creating the Western drama series Paradise, which ran from 1988-1991.

Actress Joan Van Ark told ET: There are no words to describe how forever grateful I have always been for the opportunity to be his Valene Ewing on both Dallas and Knots Landing. This leaves a huge hole in my heart and soul . . . both personally and creatively.”

Meanwhile, Donna Mills, who starred as Abby Ewing on Knots Landing, told ET: “David was such a special person. I am proud to have worked with him, but equally proud to have known him.

“He was so highly respected, and so helpful, not only to me, but to everyone associated with Knots Landing. My thoughts are with his wife Diana, his children and his grandchildren.”

Jacobs had reportedly battled Alzheimers for years, and passed away after a series of recent infections.

Jacob’s son told Deadline: “He had Alzheimer’s for many years, and recently he had recurring infections that led to his death.”

Jacobs is survived by his wife, Diana, their two children, Aaron and Molly, his daughter Albyn, from his first marriage, and his two grandchildren, Riley and Georgia.

Dallas will always remain one of my favorite shows! Rest in peace, David, and thanks for everything.
