Saturday, May 19, the church bells rang at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor, a short way from London. An estimated two billion people worldwide tuned in to watch the royal wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The ceremony took place after the couple had been together for two years, and not a soul on the planet can deny the love Harry and Meghan have for each other. The marriage should have served as a wonderful introduction to Meghan’s life in the British royal family, and for the most part it has. Not all are satisfied, however…
As per reports, Meghan’s now been mocked by a friend of the royals.
Showcasing an incredible wedding dress, Meghan and her handsome prince captured the attention of the world on May 19. The saga dazzled billions of viewers around the globe, with many accepting that this was a story book wedding built on love and affection.
Meghan’s initial time as a British royal, however, hasn’t exactly been a fairytale.
The Nod to American Royalty Meghan's royal wedding dress was a nod to the timlessness of her favorite celebrity wedding dress of all time, worn by American royal Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, who wore a sophisticated and sleek dress by Narciso Rodriguez for her 1996 nuptials to John F. Kennedy Jr. in 1996. "Everything goals," Meghan previously told Glamour when asked about Bessette Kennedy’s bridal look.
Though the vast majority have welcomed Meghan Markle with open arms, there’s been a tough introduction rendered by a close friend of Prince Harry’s family. Nicky Haslam, 78, is a longtime friend of Harry’s father, Prince Charles. He gave an interview recently in the Daily Mail, and was less than flattering regarding the new princess’ relatives.
“They are scary common,” Haslam said of Meghan’s family.
Thoughts on Thomas Markle and the wedding dress
Haslam didn’t stop there, either. Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle, wasn’t present at the wedding after undergoing heart surgery. Haslam said this was a blessing in disguise.
“It would have been awful if that huge lump had been there.”
He went on to conclude that the custom-made dress Meghan wore on the day – which millions heaped praise on – wasn’t up to standard, comparing it with “concrete”.
“I didn’t very much like her dress — it didn’t fit, among other things. It should have been made of thinner stuff, it seemed to be made of concrete.”
Royal Wedding Fun Fact #1: Meghan followed in Princess Diana's footsteps. Harry and Meghan read traditional vows from the Book of Common Prayer, but if you listened closely, you would have noticed that Meghan omitted the word "obey," just like Diana did when she married Prince Charles in 1981. Kate Middleton also did the same when she tied the knot with Prince William in 2011.
The royal family hasn’t responded to Haslam’s statements in any way, but we’re sure they’ll be standing firmly in Meghan’s corner if they do.
