Husband proudly explains why he doesn’t ‘help’ wife with household chores in viral video

If you’re someone who only reads the headline or watches the first few seconds of a video, you’re going to want to stick around until the end of this viral video.

J.R. Minton, a UPS driver in Texas, shared a clip of himself explaining all the reasons he doesn’t “help” his wife with household chores, including taking care of their children.

The now viral video, which was shared on TikTok, received thousands of comments.

Minton, 32, began by telling the camera he didn’t help his wife cook, clean, do laundry, or take care of their children, “none of that.”

After taking a breath, he explained his very valid reason.

“Because I do what I’m supposed to do as a father and a husband,” the father of four explained. “I cook, I clean, I do the laundry. I take care of the kids. I can’t ‘help’ my wife do those things, because they are my job, too.”

Minton shared with Today that despite how he began his video, he and his wife Brittany share the responsibilities of their household.

“Pretty much everything about my parenting style is in spite of what I saw when I was growing up.”

While Minton has no problem sharing the duties, he described a situation where a fellow shopper complimented him on doing the “bare minimum” while shopping with three of his children.

“I was wearing the baby and I had two kids in the cart, and this lady comes up to Brittany and she’s like, ‘Oh my God. Is this your husband!? Look at him. You should take a picture of him,’” Minton said. “I get so much credit for doing nothing. How low is the bar?”

Minton said he hopes to change the way people think because “We are not helping our wives, we are not babysitting our kids. That way of thinking needs to change,” he says. “It’s time to grow up.”

Good on J.R. for calling out society for praising men for doing the bare minimum when it comes to taking care of the household. We need to change our way of thinking. The responsibility should not be placed on one person.
