Mariah Carey wants primary custody of her twins after Nick Cannon has 12th child

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have what can only really be described as a tumultuous past together, but it appears their story isn’t quite over yet.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll likely have seen Cannon’s name popping up frequently over the past few months. This isn’t due to any ground-breaking body of work, nor any scandalous acts or comments. No, it’s down to his rather unusual proclivity for bringing children into the world.

Yep, you read that right. 42-year-old Cannon now has 12 kids, the oldest of whom was born in 2011. In December of last year, Cannon and Alyssa Scott welcomed Halo Marie Cannon, that just one month after Cannon and DJ Abby De La Rosa welcomed a daughter, Beautiful Zeppelin Cannon – their third baby together.

Cannon himself has professed that he was made to be a father – he insists there have been no accidents. “Every day I just wake up excited as a father,” he told People in May 2022.

“I’m so excited about all my kids. Constantly, from every aspect of it. From them getting citizen of the month awards in the first grade to the birth of the new ones.”

Yet just now he finds himself at odds with one of the mothers of his children.

It just so happens that Mariah Carey – Nick’s ex-wife and mom to his first two children, Moroccan and Monroe – is vying to take full custody of the twins.

As per reports, a source close to the iconic singer told RadarOnline that Mariah is less than impressed with Cannon’s baby-making habits. The pair have an existing custody agreement in place since their divorce back in 2014, but Carey wants to try and make some amendments.

“The reality of the situation is that Monroe and Moroccan are usually with Mariah anyway,” the source revealed. “Nick doesn’t see much of them.”

The source went on to explain that Mariah isn’t aiming to punish Cannon in any way, but rather send him a timely reminder.

“She wants to put him on notice that he can’t just flit in and out of their lives while he attends to his other children,” the source said. “And she wants legal standing as the twins’ primary caregiver.”

Regardless of what happens moving forward, I think it’s always important in these situations that every decision is made solely with the kids in mind. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to have parents who are famous around the world, let alone when those parents are at odds with one another.

Here’s to hoping the matter can be resolved sooner rather than later, and without any real difficulty.

While I’m sure Mariah is coming from a good place, I think it’s important that every child is given the opportunity to spend time with both parents.
