Matthew Perry‘s death last weekend sent shockwaves around the entertainment industry and indeed the world in general.
The beloved Friends star was just 54 at the time of his passing, though by his own admission had lived a life plagued by struggles with addiction. In his memoir, released just last year, titled Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, Perry painted a picture of himself as a man who was working hard to combat his many demons.
By all accounts, the actor was in the process of turning his life around, doing his utmost to heal the many wounds wrought by years of destructive habits.
Perhaps that’s what makes his sudden death all the more shocking, with any number of theories currently to be found on the internet discussing the cause and manner of his demise.
One thing’s for certain, and that’s that fans of Perry will have to wait months to know for sure what caused his death. Initial tests have reportedly revealed that there was no fentanyl or meth in his system, while law enforcement officers told TMZ that there had been no drugs found at the scene of his death.
Much of Perry’s final day alive has already been dissected by the masses, including the fact that he played pickleball for two hours before returning home and sending his personal assistant on an errand.
Of huge interest to the public was the identity of a ‘mystery’ woman he had apparently dined with just one day before his death. She’s now been identified as Athenna Crosby – as per TMZ – and has since spoken out to clarify a few of the conspiracy theories spawned in the wake of Perry’s passing.
According to reports, Perry and Crosby grabbed lunch together on Friday, October 27 at the Hotel Bel-Air in LA. The 25-year-old model described herself as devastated to learn of his death, but insisted that, contrary to certain opinions, Perry’s social media posts in the days leading up to his passing were not a cry for help.
This comes after one particular conspiracy theory pushed the idea that Perry was seeking help by referring to himself as “Mattman” – the actor posted a photo of himself in the hot tub where he was later found unresponsive just a week ago.
Crosby, however, told TMZ that Perry was simply really into Batman, and had even dubbed his car the Batmobile.
What’s more, Crosby confirmed the rumors suggesting that Perry was actually in good spirits before his untimely death, and that he had new projects lined up as he worked towards a brighter future for himself.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, the model said: “Matthew was in good spirits on our outing together and we are all still shocked by this tremendous loss.
“I hope this directs more people to his recent memoir and his advocacy work for addiction, and that by seeing his story, more people struggling can get the help they need.”
In his memoir, released last year, Perry spoke candidly on his many struggles with addiction. He also addressed the subject of his weight gain after the conclusion of Friends, and appeared to be doing his utmost to get his life back on the right track.
