Prom is a big night for any student. Boy or girl, confident or shy, popular or not.
Most of us dream about the perfect prom night – a concept fuelled by films and TV shows wherein we see the most epic of events come to pass in all manner of ways.
It’s not always as simple as it seems, however. Obtaining the perfect date can be a daunting thing, made even harder if you’re not what most would term ‘one of the cool kids’.
This was the case for Lindsey Preston of Lawrence County High School in Alabama. Lindsey was born with Down Syndrome, and made headlines recently for securing a prom date girls up and down the country have good reason to be envious of…
Like many girls, Lindsey Preston has looked forward to her high school prom for a long time. This year it was finally her turn, and boy did she take the opportunity to steal the show with both hands.
She’d already acquired the perfect dress, and so set about trying to discover a date to match.
Fortunately, she found it in the form of Don Jones II, who people might recognize as the safety for the San Francisco 49ers.
According to reports, Jones has been a friend of the Preston family for some time, and accepted Linday’s mom’s invitation when she asked if he was available last year.
“Lindsey always stayed in contact with me and the family,” Jones told local news source Waff.
“Her mother asked me to go to prom with her last year so I told her I would be more than glad to.”
Jones went on to say that he was just as happy as Lindsey to attend the dance.
“Anything I can do to make some kids smile, I would be more than willing to do. I think the most fun was all of the guys, I showed the guys about 5 or 6 new dance moves.”
Lindsey’s mom, Kristi, shared heartwarming pictures of the pair on her Facebook page. Lindsey and Don took the traditional prom photos, as well as a host of snaps lighting up the dance floor.
A friend also shared a video of the pair on Facebook, where they can be seen busting some moves to Bruno Mars.
This is what it’s all about. Making somebody else day. She couldn’t have got a better date if she wanted to have a good time. I knew u was gone turn em up. Mad love homie
