Flying is bitter sweet: the ‘during’ part is not usually so fun – however the anticipation of arriving at one’s final destination can make it all worth it.
Flying with children, and especially babies, however, is just never easy, and can even feel like a double whammy.
Imagine then, having to fly with young, 6-month-old twins. If you’ve had the experience of it, then you already know just how difficult it is.
One mother recently experienced just that. Her traveling alone with twins on a busy flight was made worse when a gatekeeper took the car seat she needed to place one of her two babies – and was informed that she’d have to leave the flight as she was not allowed to hold both her children.
But then, unexpectedly… a stranger stepped in. A mother, like herself.
Mackenzie Murphy, another passenger on the plane, observed the incident and later retold it on her Facebook page.
She noted that a perfect stranger, who herself was traveling with a young daughter, offered to hold one of the babies – for the entire flight.
Touched, the mother of twins gratefully accepted.
Here is Mackenzie’s depiction of how the events went down. I love reading stories like this!
Well, yesterday’s supposed-to-be easy day of travel turned into an incredibly long day of travel home. I have to share this because it restored my faith in humanity.
Yesterday, this woman on my flight had twin babies, probably under 6 months, not so sure of the age. It was a very packed flight so they started taking carry on luggage to store under the plane. A gate worker took this woman’s car seat, meaning she would now have to hold both babies since they weren’t old enough to sit up on their own in a seat.
When she sat down on the plane a flight attendant immediately told her that she couldn’t hold both babies, and would have to leave the flight. A mother sitting in front of me, with permission from the other mother, volunteered to hold one of her babies for the entire flight.
Keep in mind this was a flight that was supposed to be a quick 45 minutes. We ended up sitting on the tarmac for 2 1/2 hours!
Without a complaint this woman fed the other woman’s baby, burped him. Her own daughter started crying.
This mom, so calmly, went on to explain to her young daughter that “our job is to help other people. This mom is all by herself with no help, and really needs another mom to help.” She then went on to hold him, sing him songs, and then he slept the entire flight without even a cry. My heart still feels fuzzy. Moral of the story is when you see people needing help, do the right thing and help them.

Wow, what a wonderful story of solidarity, kindness, and love! Simple gestures can go such a long way and really warm the heart. Share this story if you agree the perfect stranger in this story deserves recognition for her actions.
