After spending a school year together, most teachers form a close bond with their students. And as summer approaches and the realization sets in that this year’s class will soon go up a grade, it’s understandable why teachers feel a bittersweet mix of joy and loss. So when the time came for first-grade teacher Chris-ShaRee Castlebury, from Lawton, Oklahoma, to send her students off to the summer and second grade, she decided to make the best of it. She’s always gone that extra mile for her students—and as the last day of school approached, she came up with a wonderful way to pay tribute to their time together.
As soon as it sunk in that she’d have to say goodbye to this year’s class of first graders, teacher Chris-ShaRee Castlebury decided to do something special to pay tribute to their time together.
Castlebury invited her students to use their art skills and decorate a very special dress.
Her students happily worked on the project and poured their hearts into decorating the dress.
On the last day of school, Castlebury wore the colorful dress as a tribute to her students. “Happy last day of school with my precious Picassos,” she wrote on Facebook.
After receiving praise from her school, as well as from social media users from around the world, Castlebury plans to repeat the project every year. And she also hopes to wear each class’s dress every time they celebrate a milestone like elementary or high school graduation. How wonderful!
Please share if you also think this teacher’s tribute to her students was an incredibly nice gesture!
