Tom Selleck generously leaves server $2,020 tip after meal in New York

Tom Selleck is a man of good values, outstanding morality and compassion; this is something most of us will know by now.

For those unfamiliar with the on-screen legend, or for those who need a reminder, it would appear that Selleck went out of his way to give one lucky server a memorable end to 2020.

As per reports, the Blue Bloods star left a generous tip of $2,020 for a server after a meal at a restaurant in New York.

Co-star Donnie Wahlberg, who also stars in Blue Bloods, revealed Tom’s charitable act on social media, writing on Twitter: “I found out that my TV Dad Tom Selleck has generously accepted the #2020TipChallenge at Elios Upper East Side! Love ya dad.

“I didn’t start it but I’m proud to be part of it. To those who gave even the smallest extra amount this year – THANK YOU.”

Wahlberg himself took part in the same challenge at the start of this year, what seems like a lifetime ago back in January.

Equalling his friend’s act of compassion with a gesture of his own, Tom’s note to his lucky server read: “For Elios, I am honoring my friend Donnie Wahlberg’s ‘tip challenge’ with my sincere hope for a better 2020. Thank you all.”

According to reports, the 2020 Challenge was started in December of last year, when an unnamed customer at the Thunder Bay Restaurant in Alpena, Michigan left a $2,020 tip for their $23 meal, as well as writing “Happy New Year” and “2020 Tip Challenge” on the bill.

I don’t know about you, but I think this is more like the sort of news I wanted to be seeing in 2020.

The world has become a strange place indeed this year, but we need not abandon hope so long as we retain our morals and remember that we will come out of this stronger on the other side.

Thank you Donnie Wahlberg and Tom Selleck! Your generosity should serve as an inspiration to us all.
