Doctors give warning against Ozempic side effect

Ozempic has become a popular drug not because of what it does to help people with diabetes, but because of its weight loss effects.

Now, people all over the world are being warned of a side effect they may have never expected from using the GLP-1.

Ozempic is a drug which falls into the GLP-1 category of medications. The drug is intended to treat people with type two diabetes by helping to lower their blood sugar levels.

However, there has been a growing trend of people using the drug to help lose weight. The official website for the drug reads, “Ozempic is a medicine for adults with type 2 diabetes that, along with diet and exercise, may improve blood sugar. While not for weight loss, Ozempic may help you lose some weight.”

While the website may read that, a lot of people are still using the drug to help them with weight loss. And like with any other drug, there are side effects for Ozempic too. Some people have noticed gas while others report sagging skin.

Another person on a thread dedicated to the drug on Reddit wrote, “My sex drive is completely gone.”

Another person posed a question in a thread asking if the drug use impacted their libido, with one female user replying with, “Mine has left the building. I miss it!”

While a third user added, “Same. Got nothing. It’s like it has totally just quit and left.”

“I have been on Ozempic for about 3-4 months and I feel like my sex drive has disappeared. Anyone else found this?,” another Redditor user asked.

But there were others who were reporting the opposite, with one user reporting, “Mines definitely improved, my hubby loves it. Lol. I went years without any desire at all.”

“Mine has improved greatly, and it was good before,” chimed another.

Dr. James Simon, a reproductive endocrinologist, OBGYN and clinical professor at George Washington University, shared how the drugs impact on a person’s libido might come down to biology.

He said, “These drugs do work in the same places that pleasure and sexual interest are located in the human brain—male and female.”

Dr. Taylor Kohn, a fellow in male reproductive medicine and surgery in the Department of Urology at Baylor College of Medicine, said that the long term benefit to the cardiovascular system in users because of weight loss could positive impact erectile dysfunction. He said, “We know that if you reverse cardiovascular disease, erectile dysfunction improves as well.”
