Jenna Wolfe, former ‘Today’ correspondent, undergoes mastectomy after testing positive for breast cancer gene

Jenna Wolfe is on the mend after undergoing two preventative procedures.

The former Today correspondent revealed she is currently recovery from a mastectomy, the second of two treatments after having discovered she tested positive for the BRCA1 gene earlier this year.

“Mastectomy behind me. All that’s left now is recovery and healing… The most important part. The hardest part,” the mother of two wrote alongside of a photo of herself sitting next to a hospital bed.

Wolfe previously shared how her approach to life has always been “if you stumble, make it part of the dance,” but her recent revelation left her “little wiggle room to mull over my choices.”

She opted for surgery.

“My hysterectomy is the first. It’s not fun, not easy, not at all pleasant (I’m terrified of needles) but it’s something I need to do,” she wrote on Instagram after updating her fans on her health. “The second surgery, the bigger one, will be in 2 weeks.”

Since testing positive for the BRCA1 gene, which is known to cause a variety of cancers, Wolfe has said her daughters Harper and Quinn have been a source of light for her.

“I FaceTimed with my kids tonight, and the little said to me, ‘You always say we can do hard things, mama. Now we’re telling you the same thing. You got this. We love you.'”

She also thanked her mom, a stage 3 breast cancer survivor, for being by her side.

“I’m a lucky girl,” she wrote.

In her last update on her Instagram Stories, Wolfe shared she was “heading home” and now “It’s time to heal … everything.”

Thank you Jenna for sharing your health journey with everyone. Even if it makes just one person aware of the seriousness of testing positive for the BRCA1 gene, then being so vulnerable was totally worth it.

Please join me in saying a prayer for Jenna.
