Robin Roberts shares important update on wife Amber Laign’s battle with cancer

Four months after marrying the love of her life, Robin Roberts is giving fans not only an update on married life, but also on her wife’s battle with cancer.

“We’ve been together almost 19 years as a couple, and we truly feel like newlyweds. Love it, I wish someone had told us earlier how great married life is,” the Good Morning America anchor told Entertainment Tonight.

In late 2021, Roberts was absent from GMA multiple times sparking rumors that she was leaving the show. But the rumors were put to rest when in February 2022 she revealed her longtime partner Amber Laign was battling breast cancer.

“She and I have been together almost 17 years and have helped each other through our challenges like my journey with cancer,” she shared with viewers. “It’s my turn now to be there for her like she was for me.”

Later that year she told fans Laign, who suspended her treatment in April, had completed radiation.

Roberts shared a video on Instagram of Laign ringing a bell signifying the end of her treatment.

“I’m able to kind of give her a roadmap because I’ve gone through it, but she’s also given me a roadmap on how to be a caregiver,” Robin explained during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2022. “And I didn’t realize how much I had blocked out during my journey, and it was because of sweet Amber — because she protected me and navigated for me. So, I’m doing the same thing for her.”

Now, Roberts has another update to share.

“She is doing extremely well. The cancer is at bay, she’s recovering well and ready to move on to the next stage.”

Such good news to hear! We’re always praying for you, Amber!
