GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonist medications such as Ozempic have really sky-rocketed in popularity recently. Originally the medication came out to treat Type-2 diabetes, helping to manage blood sugar levels.
The drug also has the effect where the digestive system is slowed down and hence can cause a prolonged sensation of fullness.

However, of course with most medications, there are side effects. The side effects that have been reported so far include nausea, constipation, and stomach pain.
Others have also reported ‘premature ageing,’ hair loss, and changes to their smiles.
However, now users who have vulvas are reporting a side effect that has been dubbed as ‘Ozempic vulva.’ This is not a side effect which has been officially listed by manufacturers of the drug. However, Dr Tahery, a Los Angeles-based physician who has said there can be three side effects to the vagina and vulva.
These can include sagging of the outer labia, weakness of the muscles in the vagina and dryness.
These include: a sagging of the outer labia, weakness of the vaginal muscles and dryness. There have been users of the drug who have taken to social media platforms such as Reddit, with concerns.
The rapid weight loss associated with Ozempic can lead to the sagging of the skin in general. Hence the vulva can also appear deflated.
“Loss of subcutaneous fat is global – including the mons pubis and labia majora – sometimes giving the area a deflated or ‘aged’ look. This can be due to ptosis of soft tissue, or atrophy of the fat in this area,” Dr Justin Perron, board member of the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, said in an interview.
The drug does not just target fat but also targets muscle mass according to reports. This could also lead to a weakening of the pelvic muscles.
US gynaecologist Dr Melanie Bone said that the changes to hormone levels and dehydration can also lead to vaginal dryness and discomfort. According to a report from the MailOnline but some patients have begun to look for dermal fillers to give their nether regions a more fuller look. This process is being ‘genital rejuvenation’.
