When Chris Mann sang “You Raise Me Up” on “The Voice,” his beautiful performance left even the judges in tears. Standing by Chris’ side was a sign language interpreter whose movements matched Chris’ voice, so that everyone in the room could experience Chris’ soaring performance. When Chris reached the words “you lift me up,” a chorus of young people flooded the stage, and Chris made his way toward the cheering audience. And by the end of the song, I felt like Chris had taken us on a journey that singers on singing competitions rarely take audiences.
