Katy Perry makes major announcement about her future on ‘American Idol’: ‘I wanna see the world and maybe bring new music’

Katy Perry appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Monday night and dropped a bombshell.

The longtime American Idol judge revealed she would be leaving the singing competition show after seven seasons.

“I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for Idol,” Perry told Kimmel. “I mean I love Idol so much. It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat, you what I’m saying Jimmy?”

Perry, 39, who was on the late night show to promote the series’ 22nd season, admitted that not even her fellow judges knew about her decision.

“What did Luke and Lionel say?” Kimmel asked.

“Well, they’ll find out tonight!” Perry replied.

The “Firework” singer joined American Idol in 2018 when the show was revived by ABC after a 15-season run on FOX.

Perry and her fellow judges, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, were recently announced as judges for the upcoming 22nd season.

Although she hadn’t specifically told Bryan and Richie her plans, she said they knew she had been in the studio and “they figured something is coming.”

“I love the show so much but I wanna go and see the world and maybe bring new music.”

We’ll miss you Katy, but we can’t wait to see what else you have planned for your fans!
