Singer Brings Her Survivor’s Strength To The “American Idol” Stage.

La’Porsha Renae left the judges of “American Idol” almost speechless after her powerful rendition of Mary J. Blige’s “No More Drama” on the show’s farewell season. The song’s lyrics seemed to come straight out of La’Porsha’s life and they certainly touched the domestic violence survivor as she gave her tearful performance. Renae said backstage, “I got out of the relationship in April and then I came straight to Idol in June of last year. I never really just sat down and sunk my teeth into the fact that I was there. So, to face the pain that I’ve been through was a whole different thing and America kind of forced me to do that this week.” Jennifer Lopez, who opened up about feeling abused in past relationships in her 2014 memoir, fought back tears as she told La’Porsha after her performance: “It takes a lot to overcome, it takes a lot of strength to overcome those things in our life, baby. I know, everybody knows, we’ve all been through stuff like that, you know what I mean? And honestly, you’re an inspiration. It was so beautiful. Thank you for that moment.” Watch La’Porsha’s emotional performance below.
