Alaskan Bush People star Matt Brown has died aged 43, his brother Bear confirmed in an emotional TikTok video shared on Saturday.
The reality TV star’s body was recovered from a river in Washington state, according to reports. According to Bear, Matt’s body was found in the Okanogan River near Oroville, Washington.
“They found a body in the river a few hours ago and it was positively identified as being Matt,” Bear told followers.
Body recovered from river
Authorities have since released further details surrounding the tragedy. According to the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 caller had earlier reported seeing a man sitting in shallow water in the river.
The caller later reportedly saw the man go face down in the water before drifting away in the current. Emergency crews launched a search operation but were unable to immediately locate him.
A firearm was reportedly found near the area where Matt had first been reported missing. Officials have said an autopsy is still pending.
Brother made heartbreaking discovery
Reports state that Matt’s younger brother Noah was the first to spot the body and helped recover him from the river.
Bear had previously voiced concern online after not hearing from Matt for several days.
Matt Brown became known to audiences through Discovery Channel’s Alaskan Bush People, which followed the Brown family’s off-grid lifestyle and ran for 14 seasons.
Struggles behind the scenes
During his message to fans, Bear also spoke about some of the struggles Matt had faced in recent years. According to him, his brother had dealt with addiction and personal challenges away from the spotlight.
Matt had reportedly also become estranged from some of his family members.
His death has left fans and loved ones mourning the loss of a familiar face from one of Discovery’s most recognizable reality TV families.
