Americans must buy these items before prices rise under Trump tariffs

Shoppers across the U.S. are being warned to stock up on key household items as prices are set to soar following President Trump’s sweeping new tariffs.

Since returning to office in January, Trump has rolled out a wave of import taxes targeting goods from dozens of countries. On April 2, during a Rose Garden address he dubbed “Liberation Day”, the 47th President announced a 10% global tariff baseline – with even higher rates for 60 countries he labeled “the worst offenders.”

Nations hit hardest include Japan (24%), South Africa (30%), and Vietnam (46%).

Economists are sounding the alarm, warning that everyday items Americans rely on are about to spike in price as these tariffs take effect starting April 5.

The financial fallout has already begun. Within hours of Trump’s announcement, the S&P 500 lost $2 trillion in market value, and the U.S. dollar dropped to a six-month low. Global markets trembled in response to the sharp shift in trade policy.

Experts say now is the time to act – especially if you’re in the market for imported food, appliances, or even a new car.

Here are 10 items Americans are being urged to buy before prices jump:

  • Bananas
  • Avocados
  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Cars
  • Furniture
  • Washers
  • Dryers
  • Clothes
  • Toys

Former President Barack Obama also weighed in this week, expressing deep concern over the direction of Trump’s trade strategy.

Speaking with College President Steven Tepper, Obama said: “I have deep differences of opinion with my most immediate successor – who’s now president once again… I don’t think what we just witnessed in terms of economic policy and tariffs is going to be good for America.”

While he criticized the economic approach, Obama also voiced broader concerns about threats to democratic institutions, particularly around free speech and higher education.

As the impact of the tariffs begins to ripple across industries, consumers are being told: if you need it, buy it now – before the price tag climbs.
