Michael Chiarello passed away a month and a half ago on Friday, October 7. Now the cause for his death has been revealed after the coroner’s report has come out.
According to the Napa County Coroner, the chef passed away due to an allergic reaction, which caused an anaphylactic shock and ultimately led to a heart attack. The news of his death was first broken by TMZ.
Chiarello passed away at Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa, California. TMZ reported that Chiarello came back to life after the allergic reaction he suffered from hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. This is a disorder that is caused by a lack of oxygen and blood flow. It is still not known what the chef had an allergic reaction to.
The coroner’s report said that there was cocaine in Chiarello’s system, but he did not pass away from a drug-related overdose.
In October, the late chef’s family released a tribute that said, “We deeply mourn the loss of our beloved patriarch Michael. His culinary brilliance, boundless creativity, and unwavering commitment to family were at the core of his being.”
It went on, “He brought people together through the joy of shared meals, fostering lasting memories around the table. As we navigate this profound loss, we hold dear the moments we cherished with him, both in his kitchens and in our hearts. His legacy will forever live on in the love he poured into every dish and the passion he instilled in all of us to savor life’s flavors.”
Chiarello’s family’s statement was a tribute to the celebrity chef, saying, “We deeply mourn the loss of our beloved patriarch Michael. His culinary brilliance, boundless creativity, and unwavering commitment to family were at the core of his being.”

Chiarello is survived by his four children — his son Aiden, and daughters Margaux, Felicia, and Giana.
