A conjoined twin who shares a torso with her sister is finally addressing the curiosity surrounding intimate moments with her husband.
In 2020, Carmen Andrade matched with Daniel McCormack on the dating app Hinge, a connection that quietly grew over the years before the couple tied the knot in October 2024 on Lover’s Leap Bridge in New Milford, Connecticut.
The moment brought with it a wave of curiosity as Carmen and her twin sister Lupita are conjoined. They share a lower body and move through life side by side – a reality that shapes every part of their day-to-day lives.
Their story has drawn attention not just for the relationship itself, but for how they navigate everyday moments that many take for granted, including privacy, connection, and boundaries.
Connected since birth
Born in Mexico, the twins –who turn 26 in June – weren’t expected to live past a few days, People previously reported.
The women have two legs, share some ribs, their circulatory system, and their digestive and reproductive systems. Each sister has her own arms, heart, lungs, and stomach.
Doctors once warned that separation surgery could lead to severe neurological complications or even death, and the decision not to pursue it was shaped by more than medical risk alone.
“There’s the whole psychological situation,” Carmen told People in 2017. “Because we’ve been so used to being together. I don’t think there’d be a point.”
Two women, one torso, one man
When Carmen met Daniel, their relationship developed much like any other, but with one key difference – Lupita was always part of the picture, meaning any relationship Carmen built had to work for all three of them.
“She’s not really good at choosing guys, and I was like, ‘You should choose that guy. He seems harmless,’” Lupita said, adding that her sister’s ex-boyfriend was “horrid.”
While Lupita has made it clear she approves of Daniel, she’s equally firm about her place in their relationship and what that means on her own terms.
“I don’t like being asked if I am ever going to love [Daniel],” Lupita said. “I love him as a brother. That’s about it.”
Handling intimacy
As their relationship drew more attention, questions about intimacy followed close behind, often circling back to how the couple handles private moments while sharing a body with Lupita.
Carmen said it ultimately comes down to respect and communication, explaining to People that it’s about “constantly talking.”
“I don’t know how else to put it,” she added.
That approach shapes not just physical boundaries but emotional ones as well, creating space where everyone involved feels comfortable. If something doesn’t feel right for Lupita – like cuddling or even conversations between the couple – Carmen says the answer is simple.
“We just respect that,” she said, adding that she’s “not a very overly affectionate person that way.”
For Lupita, the experience is different, and she handles those moments in her own way.
“Yeah, I have headphones and a phone. I don’t care,” she said.
Carmen, meanwhile, says her relationship with Daniel doesn’t follow the kind of constant affection people often expect.
“I think there’s a certain societal expectation that there needs to be affection the entire time within a relationship,” Carmen said. “All we do is joke around a lot of the time.”
Pushing back on curiosity
While Carmen has shared parts of her life publicly, she has also made it clear that there are limits to what she is willing to discuss, especially when questions cross into deeply personal territory.
“I don’t understand why people need to know about my private parts in order [to] humanize us,” she said.
Daniel has also addressed the attention directly, pushing back against the fixation on their private life.
“People are obsessed with sex, you know? And it is just like, frankly, it’s none of your business.”
