Cop knocks on old man’s door – when he sees his face, he immediately calls nursing home

It all started four years ago while police officer Jon Sterling was responding to a routine call about some suspicious activity.

The caller was an old war veteran named Norm. Jon was immediately struck by how intelligent and nice the lonely old man was. The two of them had a lot in common and started hanging out.

Over the next few years, the two men developed a close bond. But in February 2017, Jon realized that he hadn’t seen 83-year-old Norm for a long time. So he decided to check in on him and make sure everything was okay.

Jon was worried and drove over to the old man’s house. He got out of the car, walked up to the front door, and knocked on the door.

But when it opened, Jon was shocked.

Norm had lost weight, looked tired, and was dishevelled. Jon noticed that the elderly man’s beard was almost as long as the hair on his head.

“It really didn’t look like he was taking care of himself,” Jon told Inside Edition.

Soon Jon learned that Norm was suffering from dementia but didn’t have any close relatives who could take care of him.

The kind officer just couldn’t let his friend continue live like this.

Jon decided to apply for guardianship of his friend—and his application was granted! So Jon started taking care of Norm in any way he could.

In addition, Jon started a collection to get Norm into suitable housing.

The goal was $5,500, but he soon collected $9,645!

“Because of YOU Norm received more than what I asked for in less than 24 hours. A thousand thanks. Norm called me as I was walking in the door home around 6PM. I told him about it and he said I was going to make him cry,” Jon wrote on Facebook.
